How to Help Japan

There are many ways in which you can help Japan recover from the Fukushima Daiichi disaster and the tsunami that caused it. The easiest and perhaps more effective way of helping is by donating money to different charitable institutions. There are many out there right now hard at work cleaning up and helping relocate homeless Japanese who were uprooted after the tsunami. Donating to the red cross who was sending hundreds of doctors and relief workers and response teams within the first 24 hours would directly help those in need. Or, donating to the Rotary, who have thousands of districts that can deliver aid to areas the need it the most.

Steps to Donate:

1.) Contact your local Rotary chairmen or women.

2.) Ask what they know about donations to Japan and how you can help.

3.) Also, you can go online to www.redcross.org and donate there.

4.) You can also go to http://www.toyotasupportforjapan.com/ where they have a pretty cool animation and

interactive menu that you can either send a message wishing those in trouble a safe recovery and you can

also donate money there that will go to the relief effort.

In Japanese tradition if you make one thousand paper planes you can make a wish. You don't have to believe in it but it can also be a way of raising awareness and making sure we don't forget the thousands without homes and families that have lost loved ones in the wake of this disaster. Maybe get friends from your school or family and make some to hand in your car or school. This may also encourage some to donate and ultimately help the victims of the tsunami. To paraphrase an old Japanese adage, "Saru mono hibi ni utoshi" or, out of sight, out of mind. Lets make sure this issue stays in sight, because it deserves not to be forgotten.
